Marking astounding efforts in supporting the central office, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Mindanao Cluster 1 (MC1) celebrated a series of milestones last December 12, 2017 in different locations around Zamboanga City.

The day-long set of events were highlighted by the inauguration of the country’s 2000th Tech4Ed Center at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penalogy (BJMP) Region IX Female Dormitory, led by DICT OIC Eliseo M. Rio Jr. and MC1 Director Maria Teresa M. Camba.

Established through the joint effort of the DICT, the BJMP IX and the Rotary Anns Club of Zamboanga City West, the newly-launched Tech4Ed center will provide female inmates ICT-enabled opportunities inside the prison dormitory.

“What is unique and memorable about the 2000th Center is that it represents the heart of the project because it is located here at the City Jail for women, testifying that with the DICT, no one is left behind,” stressed OIC Rio in his keynote speech during the inauguration.

The DICT-OIC also attended four more activities starting with the 2nd MC1 Tech4Ed Center Managers Conference where close to a hundred participants gathered to discuss how to sustain the success of the centers.

He and the team then proceeded to attend the Rural Impact Sourcing (RIS) Technical Training graduation of 21 scholars, who finished a six-week intensive training program. Four outstanding scholars were recognized. At the same time, Narra Digital, a value-based digital business solutions company born out of the Technical Training in Zamboanga, was also launched during the same event.

Closing the highlight-filled day was the inauguration of the newly renovated DICT-MC1 Field Operations Office at the Corcuerra Extension, Port Area, Zamboanga City with Zamboanga City Mayor Maria Isabelle Climacoto joining Rio and Camba in the ceremony.

Director Camba used the opportunity to launch the Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) service in Zamboanga, the first in Mindanao and the DICT’s plans to further expand free Wi-Fi sites in the city.
