The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) recognizes the need to promote the utilization of ICT in the events of disaster, as the country is known to be heavily affected by earthquakes, typhoons, torrential rains, etc. On 05 to 07 June, the DICT shall conduct a three-day training on the effective use of ICT in exchanging and disseminating information as part of the nation’s initiative on disaster management, at Cocoon Boutique Hotel, Diliman, Quezon City.
The event is the localized counterpart of the regional trainings hosted by the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT), a key organization of governments that spearheads development and innovation programs, in cooperation with the ICT industry key players and stakeholders.
At the end of the training, the participants are expected to understand the conceptual information and theoretical principles of Effective Information Exchange using ICT in Disaster Management, identify effective Telecommunication & ICT Solutions for Disaster Prevention, comprehend Early Warning Broadcast System (EWBS) Protocols, and recognize the Role of Broadcasters in the Event of Disasters.
The event is attended mainly by the members of the Emergency Telecommunications Cluster of the NDRRMC, DICT and its attached agencies – National Privacy Commission (NPC), National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC). The Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP), Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO), People’s Television Network (PTV 4), and other concerned national government agencies will be there as well.
