The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) conducted a three-session webinar on June 24 exploring public practices as well as ICT tools and solutions in ensuring cybersecurity in the “new normal”.
The first session is on Cybercrime Prevention. Speakers from the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Facebook Philippines discussed the threats and crimes that happen in the cyberspace and provided insights how the public could be protected from becoming victims.
The second session was a question and answer type and was hosted by DICT’s National Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-PH). Participants were given the chance to ask cybersecurity-related queries and concerns which were answered by the CERT-PH team.
Lastly, the third session was a discussion and training on the use of the Philippine National Public Key Infrastructure (PNPKI), particularly on digital certificates.
Participants from the government and private sectors joined the whole-day webinar which was livestreamed at the Cybersecurity Bureau’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/CYBERSECgovph/) and YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/c/DICTCybersecurity/featured), and at the DICT’s official Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/DICTgovph/).
Certificates in each segment were issued to participants who passed the quiz and/or survey per segment.
“As we ease off to the new normal, cyberspace becomes an even more important platform for us to remain functional. With most of Filipinos migrating online for work and study, public cyber safety and security, together with access to Internet connectivity and digital literacy, will be one of biggest concerns for the DICT,” DICT Secretary Gregorio B. Honasan II said.
“Cybersecurity is not anymore an option. It is a necessity—a part of everything we do in the ‘new normal’. We hope that these webinars will help provide new insights to our fellow Filipinos on how they could stay #CyberSafe and keep their data and online activities private,” DICT Assistant Secretary for Digital Philippines Emmanuel Rey Caintic said.
The whole-day webinar on cybersecurity in the new normal was part of the annual commemoration of the National ICT Month with the theme “Maximizing ICT in the new normal”.
“All these webinars we are conducting are aimed at preparing the nation in our transition to the new normal. These are in compliance with President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s directive to the Department and in support of the efforts of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID) in mitigating the effects of the COVID-19 crisis,” Secretary Honasan explained.
