Residents of Pag-asa Island, Municipality of Kalayaan, Palawan can now access free internet connectivity through the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT)’s VSAT installation.
“As we bring connectivity to remote areas of the country, including unserved and underserved areas, we are empowering our citizens and enhancing their participation in the global digital economy. This year, we are intensifying the implementation of our connectivity programs to achieve more inclusive ICT access,” DICT Secretary Gregorio B. Honasan II said.
The DICT Luzon Cluster 3 spearheaded the VSAT installation by travelling over 72 hours to reach the mainland of Palawan to Pag-asa Island.
DICT LC3-Palawan Provincial Engineer, Engr. Virgo Pinangay, together with Hon. Roberto Del Mundo, Municipal Mayor of Kalayaan; Hon. Hermoso Ornopia, Municipal Vice Mayor of Kalayaan; along with the rest of the Local Government Unit (LGU) personnel of Kalayaan, collaborated for the success of the initiative.
This in line with the DICT’s ramped up efforts to provide Internet connectivity in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas across the country.
Moreover, the Cluster also turned over 3 units of laptop from the DICT Tech4ED Program to give free ICT access to Pag-asa Island residents through the Tech4ED Center that will be established in the island.
“Your DICT shall continue to intensify our efforts to build an inclusive digital future for the country,” Secretary Honasan said.
