The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) in partnership with the National ICT Confederation of the Philippines (NICP) will conduct the first Philippine Impact Sourcing Conference (PISCON) on April 5-6, 2017 in Davao City.
PISCON aims to promote and develop the Philippine Impact Sourcing ecosystem by bringing in opportunities, and showcasing Filipino talents and freelancing work in one event.
Various rural impact sourcing players and key stakeholders such as major platform companies, payment portal organizations, LGUs, ICT councils, online freelancer organizations and concerned national government agencies will grace the conference, including the DICT Secretary Rodolfo A. Salalima who will talk about the role of government in bringing Digital/ICT opportunities to the countryside. More than the informative talks and showcasing of online opportunities, PISCON also encourages networking and collaboration for both the government and the private sector.
DICT Undersecretary Monchito B. Ibrahim is hopeful of the success not just of the conference but of the Impact Sourcing initiative of the Department, “This is an opportunity for us to promote and also position the Philippines as the preferred hub for global online freelancing and rural impact sourcing. We still have so much to work to do but we are getting there with the help of our private partners.”
PISCON is a brainchild of the eInnovation Group of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT). The eInnovation Group has been implementing the Rural Impact Sourcing Program since 2013, in partnership with major platform and online training companies through the conduct of workshops in the different parts of the country, especially in the rural areas. The workshops have inspired some locals to work online as their employment options. Some have been inspired to set up their homegrown companies in their own municipalities, such as the story of Kapatagan, Lanao Del Norte. These inspiring stories have also encouraged other rural areas to replicate this model in their own localities.
