The Department of Information and Communications Technology Visayas Cluster 2 (DICT VC2) conducted free digitaljobPH trainings in the provinces of Samar and Eastern Samar.

This is in partnership with the Local Government Units of Basey, Samar and Dolores, Eastern Samar.

The digitalJobsPH program aims to increase the ICT technical skills of the people from said provinces, enabling them to land a job in the field of ICT.

“Your DICT aims to accelerate the digital transformation of the local workforce and communities by preparing them to engage with ICT-based jobs and industries, bridging the existing skills gap between manpower and the highly advanced demands of the global digital economy,” DICT Secretary Gregorio B. Honasan II said.

A total of 171 applicants (96 from Eastern Samar and 76 from Samar) initially showed interest in the program. A rigorous screening process was conducted to select deserving scholars. Afterwards, thirty (30) applicants (16 from Eastern Samar and 14 from Samar) were selected to undergo the Social Media Marketing and Advertising Course.

The free training started last December 2020 and was conducted virtually. The trainer, Mr. Nathaniel Guio Mendoza, was a graduate scholar of the same program three years back. He imparted his skills in building a career in the online freelancing world and shared his experiences while he was still a trainee on the same program.

Out of 30 scholars, 17 managed to complete the two-month journey. A Virtual Graduation Ceremony was held last March 5, 2021.

Eleven (11) scholars received a medal for an outstanding completion of the tasks.  While still on training, six (6) scholars got hired and generated income from their online clients.

“We are constantly improving our capacity to discover untapped potential within communities with little access to resources and opportunities. We believe that by empowering more Filipinos, our country will have more chances to discover the next big breakthrough in business, in technology and in science,” Secretary Honasan said.
