The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) received a Vulcan Award from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) last March 26, 2021. This is in recognition of the DICT providing free internet connectivity to the DSWD’s office located in Rawis, Legazpi City through the former’s Government Network (GovNet) project.
“We are thankful for this recognition and at the same time, we take this conferment as a challenge to rise above and beyond our current measure of excellence. We hope to inspire our colleagues in public service to never tire of pursuing our collective duty to serve, to uplift, and to empower the people,” DICT Secretary Gregorio B. Honasan II said.
The GovNet project—the subject of the award—connects government agencies through low-cost, reliable and fast Internet enabled by fiber optic cable technology. The project aims to achieve an ICT-enabled government unbounded by physical limitations.
GovNet provides efficient Government-to-Government (G2G) transactions so public servants can competently address the most immediate needs of citizens amid the public health crisis.
Vulcan awards serve as a unique brand of the DSWD Bicol Region for deserving internal and external stakeholders who rendered exceptional service in social welfare.
The award was given to the DICT Luzon Cluster 3 during the DSWD Region 5 celebration of its 70th Anniversary to acknowledge the efforts and contribution of different individuals, agencies and organizations who shared their time and resources in reaching the goal of bringing access and opportunity to vulnerable sectors.
