23 August 2019 – The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) presented certificates of recognition to two outstanding Grade 4 students from Mandaluyong who bagged Silver Awards in the ASEAN Cyberkids Camp (ACC) at Ha Noi, Vietnam  on August 13-14, 2019.

DICT Secretary Gregorio B. Honasan II led the awarding of certificates to students Nico Al A. Larano from Mandaluyong Elementary School, and Lance Gabriel B. Cara from Nuevo de Febrero Elementary School, who were accompanied by their coaches and Ms. Elvira Canilao of the Schools Division Office of Mandaluyong.

This was to acknowledge the students’ vital work and exceptional performance as young innovators in the ICT community.

“The DICT encourages the development of an innovative mindset early on among our youth by leveraging the opportunities given by ICT, and will continue to support similar endeavors,” Secretary Honasan said.

The ASEAN Cyberkids Camp is an annual event hosted by the ASEAN Member States which primarily aims to develop ICT skills among primary-aged students. The ACC also seeks to provide recognition to extraordinary achievements of young children, to provide them an opportunity to gain regional exposure in the industry they may pursue in the future.

The Philippines had likewise brought home accolades from the ASEAN Cyberkids Camp in the last couple of years, winning the Gold Award in 2017 event which our country hosted, and a Bronze Award in 2018 in Brunei Darussalam.
