The Department of Information and Communications Technology kicked off the National Women’s Month (NWM) 2021 on March 8, 2021 with the conduct of the virtual forum featuring various speakers on gender and development. The date marked a double celebration in line with the International Women’s Day.

This year’s NWM promotes the overarching theme of We Make Change Work for Women, and focuses on advancing the #AgendaNiJuana campaign or the theme: Sama Samang Pagsulong sa mga Agenda ni Juana.

“We continually aim to help capacitate and prepare women to take on leadership and decision-making positions, amplifying their voice and power to participate in matters of national concern,” DICT Secretary Gregorio B. Honasan II said.

“We need women’s engagement in such leadership positions to achieve more inclusive development and address complex societal issues such as the ongoing pandemic,” he added.

The National Women’s Month Forum featured talks from renowned women leaders, namely: Ms. Camille Allison Adle from UN Women; Dr. Carolyn Sobritchea from the UP Gender and Development Office; Dir. Esmeralda Amora-Ladra from the GAD Focal Point System; and Ms. Nina De Leon from Facebook Philippines.

The forum served as an important learning session for the DICT community and the general public, aiming to educate and raise awareness on the key roles of women in modern society. Topics ranged from women’s role in economic recovery and resiliency, historic steps in promoting gender equality in the political agenda, equal representation of women in the electoral race, and gender-sensitive use of social media platforms.

For the rest of the month, the Department has an extensive lineup of activities and advocacy initiatives to be hosted by its different units, bureaus and services. These are as follows:

“With our united voice, talents, skills, and of course, ICT, we aim to promote the participation and representation of women’s agenda in all spheres of our society—in politics, leadership, and decision-making on the directions we take as a nation,” DICT Undersecretary Jose Arturo De Castro said.
