Department of Science and Technology – Information and Communications Technology Office (DOST-ICTO) and Huawei Technologies Philippines, Inc. jointly announced the signing of an agreement on closer cooperation on Philippines ICT students cultivation, through the Philippine Startup Challenge (PSC) and Huawei Seeds for the Future program, two flagship programs from respective parties aiming to encourage young ICT talents.
The cooperation agreement will extend the connection between the government and private sectors in ICT field to promote the culture of eInnovation among the youth. Huawei will take the responsibility as an industry partner in the Philippine Startup Challenge. And DOST-ICTO will recommend top winning students of the Philippine Startup Challenge to join Huawei’s Seeds for the Future study trip in Huawei Headquarters in China.
According to Mr. Jacky Gao Kexin, CEO of Huawei Tech Philippines, Huawei believes that access to ICT education is vital to create opportunities that support fair and sustainable development in the Philippines. Therefore, Huawei hope to transfer the ICT knowledge and good practices to the young generation through the cooperation. “The cooperation will serve as a venue for Filipino students to be exposed to the latest in ICT market and inspire them to address the social issues through using the new technology. Huawei Seeds for the Future Program will also provide the global perspective to the ICT education.” Jacky added.

The chance to join Huawei’s international study program is a good opportunity for the students to broaden their minds and hopefully encourage ITpreneurship among the youth. We thank Huawei for its commitments to the social responsibility and hope that more global enterprises to share their experiences with Filipino young generation.”
DOST-ICTO organized the Philippine Startup Challenge as part of its seedPH Program. The program aims to, among others, promote entrepreneurship through ICT and boost the Philippine startup community especially in the countryside.
Seeds for the Future is Huawei’s global CSR flagship program. Through this program, Huawei selects top college students and young government officials working in ICT-related departments for a study trip in China. Over the course of the program, Huawei shares its ICT expertise and experience in managing a multinational with young ICT professionals, and helps fuel the development of local ICT industries. The first batch of Philippines Seeds for the Future of 10 talented students from Ateneo and Mapua has conducted the study trip to China in 2015.
