The Information and Communications Technology Office of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-ICTO) in collaboration with the Statistical Research and Training Center (SRTC) launched the ICT Industry Mapping Project at simple ceremonies held at the ICT Office in Diliman, Quezon City.

The project launch introduced the ICT Industry Mapping Project to ICT stakeholders to encourage their cooperation during its implementation, as well as solicit their inputs for the efficient conduct of activities related to the project. The event brought together ICT industry stakeholders from various sectors such as telecommunications, semiconductor & electronics, ICT-enabled creatives, broadcast & media, software & applications development, computer hardware, IT-BPO and other IT services. Other related government agencies such as the Department of Trade and Industry were also invited to the event.

According to Undersecretary Casambre of DOST-ICTO; “With information and communications technology as an important conduit towards economic development, it is very important to understand the dynamics within the sector as well as it’s linkages outside the sector towards the wider economy. The ICT Industry Mapping Project seeks to obtain information integral to the development of strategic ICT industry programs that would help increase the potential of the ICT industry and increase its impact on the country’s socio-economic development.”

The ICT Industry Mapping project has six objectives; (1) Define and describe the ICT Industry and its segments; (2) describe and examine the state of performance of the ICT industry as a whole and by segments, measuring employment and income contribution; (3) identify current and future trends; (4) identify sector/segment needs that have not yet been addressed by Government policies or programs; (5) identify potential areas for government and private sector capacity-building and support to accelerate the growth and; (6) To stand as a benchmark study of the ICT industry by introducing standard data collection and data sourcing strategies to ensure a steady flow of strategic information and analytical knowledge products critical to the sector
