12 July 2019 – ICT Secretary Gregorio B. Honasan II continued carrying out the marching order of the President on Friday as he inaugurated three more public hospitals in Quezon City that now enjoys faster and free Wi-Fi access.

Aside from leading the ceremonial ribbon cutting of the Free Public Wi-Fi program launch, Honasan visited patients and checked the installed access points at V. Luna Medical Center, East Avenue Medical Center, and Philippine Children’s’ Medical Center.

In his visit at the Heroes Wards of VLMC, Honasan personally commended the soldiers admitted there and hopes bringing connectivity in the area will boost their morale when they go back to service.

“Mahalaga kasi na malaman ng mga mahal natin sa buhay, yung kamag-anak na nasa ibang lugar yung kalagayan ng kanilang mga anak at kakilala na dinadala rito para naman panatag ang kalooban nila at may komunikasyon rin sila mga doktor,” Honasan said.

This was a follow-up to his first official work as the new Secretary of DICT when he graced the launching of free Wi-Fi hotspots in Quirino Memorial Medical Center a week ago to kick off the Free Wi-Fi for All initiative in hospitals.

Honasan said the DICT will duplicate the effort in a nationwide scope, starting with the government hospitals in Metro Manila.

“The marching orders of the President [is] to connect everybody to everybody, faster, cheaper and more secure,” he said.

“We have certain targets (for the free Wi-Fi project), we are constantly reworking our figures para hindi kami magsalita at mangako na hindi naming kayang ideliver. Performance will speak for itself base on the instructions of the president,” Honasan added.
