12 October 2020 – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) led a series of Regional Virtual Opening Ceremonies of the 31st National Statistics Month (NSM) in partnership with the DICT Mindanao Regional Offices. 

The DICT, being the host agency for this year’s NSM Opening Ceremony, was invited to present the results of the National ICT Household Survey (NICTHS) 2019, highlighting the data on the specific regions.

On 5 October 2020, DICT Mindanao Cluster 1 co-organized their NSM regional opening via Zoom. Ms. Jasmin Eleazar of the National Planning and Corporate Management Bureau (NPCMB) presented the key results of the survey highlighting the data for Region IX and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). The Opening Ceremony was attended by DICT Regional Director Maria Teresa M. Camba, NEDA Regional Director Phlorita A. Ridao and PSA Regional Director Mewchun WS. Pamaran.

Another virtual Opening Ceremony was held on 9 October 2020 hosted by the PSA Regional Office and Mindanao Cluster 3. Mr. Robin Almario also of the NPCMB delivered the presentation on the NICTHS. This was attended by DICT Regional Director Evamay C. Dela Rosa, NEDA Regional Director Atty. Bonifacio G. Uy and PSA Regional Director Rosalinda C. Apura. Also in attendance were other representatives from the PSA, DICT and regional offices in the CARAGA Region. 

On 12 October 2020, a third virtual presentation of the NICTHS was delivered by Ms. Maria Kathrina Cabana of the NPCMB. Ms. Cabana presented the NICTHS results and regional data highlights for Region X. In attendance were DICT Assistant Regional Director Sittie Rahma V. Alawi, NEDA Regional DIrector Mylah Faye Aurora B. Carino and PSA Regional Director Ruben D. Abaro, Jr., who were also joined by various other representatives from regional offices.

The NICTHS 2019 is the first ever national ICT household survey conducted by DICT in partnership with the Philippine Statistical Research and Training Institute (PSRTI) and PSA. 

It is timely that this year’s NSM theme is “Bridging Digital Gaps: Making Information Available to All”, focuses on the  importance of digitalization and the need to address social inequality in terms of access to and use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT).
