2 August 2021 – In observance of the National Disaster Resilience Month with the theme “Tamang Pamamahala, at Kahandaan, Kaalaman at Pagtutulungan sa Sakuna at Pandemya, ay Kalasag ng Bayan.”, the Office of the Undersecretary for Resilient Government Emergency Communications (OURGEC) and the Disaster Risk Reduction Management Division (DRRMD) in partnership with the Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines – Quezon City Chapter (IECEP QC) jointly organized the Webinar on Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Governance for Disaster Resilience last 29 July 2021.
The event was spearheaded by the DICT executives Secretary Gregorio B. Honasan II and Undersecretary for Resilient Government Emergency Communications Alan A. Silor with the support from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Executive Director Ricardo B. Jalad, IECEP National President Mishell D. Lawas, PECE and Quezon City Chapter Governor Gemma P. Baysic, PECE.
With participants of around 500 industry professionals, the webinar presented various initiatives of the DICT and OCD which are aimed at promoting the increased use of ICT developments for strengthened DRRM including the Disaster Risk Management in the New Normal, ICT for DRRM, Government Emergency Communications System (GECS) Project, Emergency Telecommunications Cluster (ETC), and the ASEAN DRRM Project Initiatives. The event has also encouraged a technical discourse during the forum which was a means to gather relevant viewpoints and recommendations.
This event served as an avenue for the DICT, IECEP, OCD, and the participants to express meaningful interest in the pursuit for building a resilient nation enabled by ICT and to act as champions in strengthening disaster preparedness, environmental resilience and sustainability through ICT.
