13 October 2020 – The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) was invited to share its Country Experience on the conduct of the National ICT Household Survey 2019 (NICTHS) during this year’s meetings of the Expert Group on Telecommunication/ICT Indicators (EGTI) and the Expert Group on ICT Household Indicators (EGH) on 14-18 September 2020.
The 11th Meeting of the EGTI took place virtually, back-to-back with the 8th Meeting of the Expert Group on ICT Household Indicators (EGH). Both meetings are organized by the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
The presentation was significant as the NICTHS is the first ever ICT household survey conducted by the DICT. Moreover, the presentation highlighted the cooperation mechanism between the DICT and the Philippine Statistical System that is responsible for the successful implementation of the NICTHS. Delivering the presentation was Ms. Alana Gorospe Ramos, Chief of the Monitoring and Evaluation Division, National Planning and Corporate Management Bureau. Ms. Ramos’ presentation may be downloaded here.
This year’s EGH was also the venue for the launch of the 2020 edition of the Manual for Measuring ICT Use and Access by Households and Individuals. The 2020 edition is noteworthy as it features the Philippine partnership mechanism between the DICT and the Philippine Statistical System for the development of ICT statistics (Box Item 6, page 27). The Manual also features the Philippine Statistical Development Plan as another Box Item, as the country’s blueprint to respond to new statistical requirements of the Philippines’ long term AmBisyon Natin 2040 and the Philippine Development Plan 2017-2022 (Box Item 9, page 31).
