16 June 2021 – The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement to conduct the Women and ICT Development Index (WIDI) National Survey. Signing on behalf of the DICT is Undersecretary Manuel Anthony S. Tan, and for the PSA, is Undersecretary and National Statistician Claire Dennis S. Mapa.

The WIDI Survey is a commitment to collect data for the Philippine Women ICT Frontier Initiative (PH WIFI), a flagship program of UN Asia and Pacific Training Centre for ICT and Development (APCICT) and Asia-Pacific Information Network Center (APWINC), to identify prevailing gender and ICT trends. This survey will be conducted as a GAD initiative and spearheaded by the DICT National Planning and Corporate Management Bureau, in cooperation with the DICT GAD Focal Point System. It aims to generate data on how women and girls are able to access and use ICT. It is also envisioned to provide data to help the DICT in identifying key technology-based strategies or interventions that will strengthen women’s access to ICTs, and promote the safe and efficient use of technology for women’s livelihood and employment.

The survey will be conducted in collaboration with the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), and will be conducted this 2021.

The results of the survey will help guide the DICT and other stakeholders in Gender and Development in designing more gender responsive programs, plans and policies that will address the gender digital divide.
