About NICTHS

The National ICT Household Survey (NICTHS) aims to provide statistical information deemed essential in monitoring relevant dimensions of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) usage in household and by individuals.

 

The survey project’s objectives are to:

 

•  Gather ICT data at the household and individual levels to support the monitoring of performance indicators in the SDGs, PDP Results Matrix, DICT plans, and international benchmarking indexes;

 

•  Identify critical data on ICT demand towards improvement of public service delivery as well as growth of potential markets in the digital economy (e.g. e-commerce);

 

•  Provide a national baseline for core ICT household indicators; and

 

•  Utilize the collected data for national ICT planning and policy-making.

 

This national survey was conducted in 2019, in partnership with the Philippine Statistical Research Institute (PSRTI), an attached agency of the National Economic Development Authority.

Executive Summary

 

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) partnered with the Philippine Statistical Research and Training Institute (PSRTI) in conducting the National ICT Household Survey (NICTHS). The NICTHS is the first nationwide baseline household and individual survey in the Philippines that aims to assess the current status of the country in terms of Information and Communications Technology. Survey Questionnaire

NICTHS Household Questionnaire

 

Household Questionnaire is the questionnaire meant to be answered by the households in the survey. This questionnaire focuses on the household’s ICT access and use. It includes questions on the ICT devices and services that the household has and their usage of these devices and services. The household questionnaire also contains questions on the household’s composition and some demographic questions that were needed in the analysis of the indicators.

 

NICTHS Individual Questionnaire
Individual Questionnaire was the questionnaire used to measure individual’s knowledge, access, and usage of ICT, with the past three months as the reference period. This questionnaire covers a wide range of topics under ICT, such as an individual’s ICT use, an individual’s knowledge and attitude regarding digital economy, and an individual’s experience on cyber incidents. Further, this questionnaire contained questions on e-commerce which is not only limited to whether respondents sell or purchase goods and services online, but also inquires on the respondents’ adaptability to the advancing modes of financial transactions. All questions on e-commerce have a reference period of the past twelve months from the time of interview to better capture response that may be affected by seasonality. Overall, this questionnaire served as a comprehensive instrument used to assess and measure an individual’s knowledge and behavior in the information society.
