The Department of Information and Communications Technology – Mindanao Cluster 2 held a webinar on Digital Media Literacy titled “Sorting Fact from Fiction” last August 26, 2021 to raise public awareness on the proper use of the Internet and online platforms.

“Your DICT shall continue working to provide Filipinos with relevant ICT skills and instill digital awareness to ensure our readiness for participation in the increasingly digital world,” DICT Secretary Gregorio “Gringo” B. Honasan II said.

The webinar discussed topics such as how to use and handle information available on the Internet and the right actions to take concerning online data. The webinar also provided for the application of proper ICT practices in people’s day-to-day lives.

The speakers of said webinar are Mr. Rafhael L. Jabongga and Ms. Danica Ela P. Armendarez of Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan. They also engaged the participants by addressing their concerns and providing tips on different scenarios and circumstances.

Since the new normal resulted in increased demand for Internet connectivity and access, the DICT had been focusing on the need to better understand the benefits and consequences of ICT in the country.

“We are focusing on improving our citizen’s digital literacy since it serves as a powerful learning tool that will allow them to use ICT and other online resources in their day-to day functions,” Honasan asserted.
