PUP Nabs 1st Place in ASEAN-Japan Cyber SEA Games Qualifiers

Manila, PH – Students from Adamson University, Mapua Institute of Technology, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Technological University of the Philippines, and Asia Pacific College competed in the ASEAN-Japan Cyber SEA Games National Qualifiers held in the Information and Communications Technology Office (ICT Office) last October 13, 2015.

Participants underwent a Jeopardy style format, where each team were to answer various questions under each category such as Forensics, Reverse Engineering, CND (Computer Network Defense-Hardening) and Pentest. Among the participants, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines was declared as the winner by securing 1,705 points; they were followed by Asia Pacific College with 1,402 points, and finally by Mapua Institute of Technology’s 1,304 points.


PUP shall represent the Philippines in the Regional Cyber SEA Games which will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia, on November 11, 2015. The event shall pit collegiate teams from other SEA nations such as Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand. The winner from this contest shall be invited to the Cyber Security Contest that will be held in Japan in 2016.

The Cyber SEA Games is the first ASEAN-wide Cybersecurity contest for young people which came into fruition by the approval from the TELSOM leaders during the 7th ASEAN Japan Information Policy Meeting. The Japan Network Security Association (JNSA) and the Indonesia Security Incident Response Team on Internet Infrastructure / Coordination Center (ID – SIRTII/CC) were tasked to host the Regional and Global contests that aim to promote Cyber security awareness towards the youth.
