The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) will be conducting a Public Hearing for the Rules and Regulations on the Mandatory Unlocking of Mobile Phones and Devices on 8 February 2019 at the NTC Building, Diliman, Quezon City.

The event is in compliance to the Department of Information and Communications Technology’s Memorandum Order No. 004, Series of 2018 issued on 14 December 2018 directing the NTC to draft the appropriate rules and regulations, through a Memorandum Circular, for the mandatory unlocking of mobile phones and devices.

Under the draft MC, the public telecommunications entities (PTEs) will be required to disclose its policy on mobile phone and device unlocking and notify their customers if such devices are eligible for unlocking.

Unlocking policies for postpaid and prepaid phones and devices were also set in the draft MC.
